SEO for Your Squidoo Sites

If you want to use Squidoo to promote your website or products that you sell, then you will want to make sure that your are optimising how the search engines will view your Squidoo lens (page).

The Google ads placed on your site are done so automatically by Squidoo, so you have no control over these.  This is how Squidoo makes its money as they do not charge people for its services.  Therefore, you can find that people click on the ads and leave your site because of it.

There are ways and means of controlling aspects of your Squidoo page, or lens as it is known.  Basically it is up to you to decide which keywords to optimise for which will then show up on Google.  This way you know you are proactively doing something to attract the search engines to the lens.  Three percent is the optimal keyword density you should use on your site.

When you add keywords to the lens, be sure to bold them in a couple of instances so that the search engine knows you are placing relevance on these words.  There are also other ways of highlighting keywords in the text and one of these is to italic the words.  Your chosen keyword should also be placed in bold once at the beginning of your lens content and once at the end.

Placing the main keyword in the title and url is another way of making sure you stay in favour with the search engines.  If you have to separate words in the url, it is best to do so using hyphens instead of underscores.  If you link all your lenses on your blog roll, then Google will be able to find each lens easier.

One of the most important things to ensure is that you get a lot of back links to your lens.  Posting up on other peoples lenses is a great way of getting these backlinks.  Utilising the above tips will help your lens in the search engine results.
